February 2009
This month's mommie is Lora. She is a young and energetic first time mother. M2B asked her to tell her birth story. Here is how it went:

On Wednesday, December 17th I went to the doctor for my 39 week prenatal check up at 2:00. After the doctor did a vaginal exam she informed me that I was 1cm dilated and 80% effaced. This made my husband and I SUPER excited! We were due on Christmas day and we really wanted our son to be here for the holidays, so the news that my body was getting ready made us very happy! We asked the doctor if she could go ahead and do a membrane sweep on me since I was full term already and my body seemed to be getting close anyway. She said she would and right after she did, I started having contractions. They were irregular and not strong at all, but non the less, they were there! After my check up, my mother in law and I went to the mall to get pedicures. I had heard that acupressure can help you go into labor and so can walking a lot. As I was getting my pedicure, my contractions were getting closer and closer together. After we walked around the mall for a while, I decided that it was time to head home since my contractions were now six minutes apart. My husband got home from work around 5:30 and by then I was having contractions every 4 minutes. They still didn't hurt TOO bad, but I told my husband that we needed to call the doctor because I hadn't felt the baby move in a couple of hours. The doctor told us to come straight in.
We left for the hospital around 8:00pm. Once we got to the there, they hooked me up to a monitor and kept an eye on me for a few hours. Turned out, the baby was fine he was just being lazy. The doctor said she thought I would be having the baby in the next 48 hours, but since I was still only 1cm dilated she said I didn't need to stay at the hospital. So... they sent us home. We got home at 11:00pm and decided to try and rest and labor at home for as long as possible. At 11:35 I was laying on the bed watching TV, trying to distract myself from the contractions and then BAM! It felt like a water balloon exploded in my belly! And then all of a sudden, water POURED down my legs and ALL OVER the bed and carpet! I ran into the living room and told my husband that we should probably call the doctor again. They said to come straight it.... again!
We got to the hospital around 12:00pm and when the doctor checked me I was 4cm dilated! I had gone from 1cm to 4cm in one hour. Them sending us home was completely pointless! They put me back in a gown, in the same bed I was in an hour before, and hooked me up to the same monitors. I had planned on getting an epidural, but I wanted to wait as long as I could! So at 4:30am I was 6cm dilated and ready for my epidural. And boy am I Glad I got it!! I was able to sleep like a baby for the next 3 and a half hours!
My husband, sister in law, and mother in law had stayed with me all night, waiting for something to happen. Finally, around 8:15am I woke up to the baby's head crowning!! I literally woke up, got checked right away, and was told that they could see his head! The doctors and nurses rushed to put on gloves and scrubs. I pushed for a total of MAYBE five minutes and BAM! Tripp Ellis was born on 12/18/2008 at 8:38am! He weighed 7lbs 6oz and was 21 inches long. He was absolutely amazing. My husband and I both cried and held each other and stared at our son in amazement. It was the most incredible experience of both of our lives! I didn't believe in love at first sight until I saw my son for the first time. |
